I want an RTC. So cool.
But, I have plans for a 225 gallon tank....Sooooo, my question is...How long will an RTC last in this tank before I have to give it away....Or upgrade (least probable)

6months...though if you can't keep a fish for life than you just shouldn't buy. It's pretty hard to get rid of them once the time comes anyway.

Alright...

By the way....the footprint is 55''L x 38''W x 24''H. If that makes any difference.

Not really. Sorry. A rtc can and probably will grow almost 2' in the first six months to put it in perspective. And they are extremely dirty so once they get that large you would have a hard time maintaining water quality. Sorry but general rule is if you cant keep it for life don't get it. Mainly because something unexpected always seams to come up and thwart even the best of plans. I mean you don't get a dog just to give it away once it's no longer a puppy

Hah. Yeah, I guess.
Alright. Thanks, man. I might look into a pond.

:naughty: I just found a great spot for a pond...
Outdoor though, so I know I would have to insulate, heat, and chill when necessary. The dimensions are 7' 9'' x 7' 9'' x (3-4ft?)

Would this serve the catfish for most of its life?

That should work. I'm currently in the process building a indoor 12x9x3 pond for mine. Keep in mind that temps must stay between 70-80f. Which will get expensive if you live in a area with cold winters

It never goes below freezing here. I could probably have a temporary indoor pond for the winters i guess.

That is, if I needed it.

Are there ways to insulate the pond so it doesn't lose a lot of heat?

Thick Foam insulation with the highest R number you can find is about the best
