You know there is a much better way of starting a siphon than sucking on the disgusting hose right?

Put the main part of the hose in the tank, with the hole facing up. Let it fill up all the way then jerk it out of the tank. Let the water drain half way out of the main part and then quickly put the hose back in the water. The force of the draining water will start the suction again.

Or just look at this link

+1 common sense lol i dont know anyone who sucks the hose to start the siphon!

I don't care how long it is....or was,I just have never heard of anyone sucking down a fish....oh nevermind.Hope it doesn't give you gas.

I care for my buddies tanks while he is at holiday. I did a waterchange yesterday and to get the water out i sucked on the tube. Well suddenly it blocked and i tried hard, it made a plop sound and i had his juvenile fire eel in my mouth and in reflex gulped it down...If i dont get a new one soon, then im screwed...

I normally just get a mouthful water when i do that too careless. I guess its better to use that mehod not wih small fish in the tank.

Hahhaha, I am laughing but at the same time I can't help but feel bad for the poor eel. Note to self: Don't ever leave you around small living things. I understand your choice in careers now, ahhaha .

Seriously though, if you start feeling weird in your lower abdomen, go see a doctor. I mean bad 'off' not nervous 'off'.

Wow I needed a laugh today. I stopped doing that trick like 15 years ago when i sucked down a cup of nasty water.
