So, I bought a Goonch...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I bought two from Wes, one died for no reason and the other one so far so good, hopefully this one makes it and becomes a monster then it can go in my pond :D

You do know how big those can get right? lol...although they don't get as big in home aquaria, they can probably still reach past the 3 foot length mark. I'm guessing their diet is smaller fish, frozen foods, krill, shrimp, pellets & flake food, worms and stuff like that. Doubt they're picky eaters...

well not all species of goonch grow up like that, the goonch cat species in North Vietnam only grow to 40'' and about 60-70lbs!

If you have to guess, then you don't know anything about them!

do you mind sharing how much you paid? there's one sitting at a LFS here over the last 8-9 months for 69.99
If LFS in your area has it for the past 8-9 months, it's not a Goonch. It could be some other Bagarius species

it's a new fish store in a ghetto part of town that everything closes at 530pm and nothing is open on sundays. next time i'm in that part of town i'll double check and get the species name but i'm pretty sure it is. Doesn't really matter though cuz i'm not buying it regardless of what it's worth.

Goodluck with your Goonch man! I've heard from many people who haved owned them that they don't necessarily have to be in cold water ande many people have had them with there trops at around 80-85 degrees.

Yes, I am quite aware of their maximum size, I'm a huge fan of Jeremy Wade and River Monsters, I actually discovered the Goonch through that episode.

I paid $75.00 plus shipping for mine at 4". $69.99 is a steal for sure, Just make sure you I.D the fish correctly and make sure it's not Bagarius Bagarius, LFS get fish I.D's mixed up quite often.

just make sure you have a few nice poweheards to make a good current. Power feed talapia and shrimp. Watch out for the bite when they get bigger. One @ 20 inches scared the pants off me when hand feeding!
