If you really plan on keeping that gator, for life, you need to build that tank as wide as possible. I really don't know anyone that has sucessfully kept a gator gar in captivity for long term that lived a healthy life, but you should count on at least 4 ft long gar. They do not turn well at all, so as wide as you can do it, the better. Long term, I would do a 12x6 footprint. Height is up to you

k thanks i will keep that in mind. This is of topic but can i feed my fish fish that i catch in a pond after i clean and freeze them or is that still a problem?

you might want to take a look at building an algee truff scrubber. it will work on both freshwater and saltwater in fact I replaced all of my equipment in my reef sumb with and algee truff scrubber, I did keep the pump from my skimmer in the sump to make sure there is enough oxgen in the tank incase the algee truff scrubber clogged up. here is a link with photo I based mine on. http://www.3reef.com/forums/i-made/...eplaces-skimmer-refugium-everythin-51120.html also when you build your own plywood tank take a look a ames blue max it worked for me and epoxy panit is brittle if you have any shift in the tank it will crack and you will have a leak.

Yes! That would not be a problem at all. My gar loves "market" shrimp. I just buy the cheapest frozen shrimp at the grocery store. Before I feed him I thaw and de-shell the shrimp. Very cheap way to feed larger fish. My Aro will eat the shrimp if very hungry but he goes for fish strips.

Man i love your tanks

if you do build plywood do your self a favor and use ames blue max for the coating epoxy is to brittle and will crack and develop pin holes.
