I was able to pick up a 44 gallon 12x12x72 tank today. I have a stand for it already. And it needs alittle TLC, but I got it on the cheap.
I just dont know what to stock in it....any ideas?

I was thinking a malawi reef with two separate heriams of mbubas.
 
Yeah mbuna would be cool in the tank as long as it is but not tall. Tons of room for rock work.

12" just doesn't seem tall enough for Discus, although I'm sure it would look cool.

With dimensions like the ones you listed I'd be tempted to do some type of a terrarium; maybe something that had land that sloped down into water from one side to the other. Allowing you to have both small fish and something else that could go back and forth from land to water.

Honestly I'm not sure what I'd stock something like that with, maybe a mud skipper or a newt or something.
