So, I got this odd tank...

only thing i could think of would be a large school of fish
 
Not sure how you list dimensions but saying 12x12x72 implies that this tank is 12" long, 12" wide, and 72" tall. At least here in 'merica. Not sure what you would do with a tank this tall. Lol Jk. I'd probably go North American natives like a few green banded, log perch and rainbow darters. I'd also do a male and female orange spotted sunfish pair along two-four of the larger madtom catfish.

you can't keep discus in a 12"x12" tank no matter how tall it is. with such odd dimensions, I think you'd be best off with a bunch of tetras. you'd have to look around to see what kind of small fish would be good with 72" of water overhead. I know most cories don't go deeper than 24" down and so would be pretty stressed at having such a tall water column.
glad I'm not the one that has to vacuum the gravel.

I agree. This tank is extremely tall.
