No Plants. the 6-8 hours is for my enjoyment. the tank is in the basement where I can watch it while watching tv or playing xbox etc. Lights go on for feeding around 6 when I get home and then off around 11 - 12 when I'm getting closer to bedtime.

it's definitely not a p hystrix. i bought one from big al's in stoney creek labeled as the same thing. it is an orb as well. where'd you get yours from?
No pleco's in my opinion. Can cause problems in the future.
I would maybe go ahead and invest in a RO/Di system.
You can find them on Ebay for around 160.00 bucks, just make sure you find one you can get filters for when needed.
You could take the rock out and wash it off for now. Ive never had it one any rock Ive added, but did get it on wood Ive had in other tanks. I just rinsed it the first two times I saw it and then I never saw it again. I never treated the tank, but I also now use RO water and have had good results with it.

Hahaha u bought the little one the.. One concern then. How big do these get?
haha, yeah, got the 3 inch disc one. i've seen varying info on them, some saying 20+ inch disc, some staying smaller (retic/hystrix size). i think it depends on the species variation from their place of capture, which we don't really know, so it'll be a surprise lol
I was tempted to buy the little fella too but I didn't think i had the room for two. I'll look forward to the final dimensions lol
