So, I was at Wal-mart today and needed cat food. Now, normally I try and avoid the fish as I feel so bad for them, but I needed some pellets for my Oscar and they do have the Haki Cichlid gold there so I wondered over to get it. There was an employee there with about 5 ppl standing around, he was throwing fish into the Oscar tank for him to eat, one of the girls hollers and is like OMG that is so mean!! To which the guy responds with "well he has to eat" do you want us to starve him. Now I have no problems with someone feeding their Oscar (or any fish) feeders, if I had some fry or fish I knew to be disease free..I would feed them to mine.

Normally, I try and stay out of things and go about my business, but today I looked at this smug face on this guy and said...well you know these pellets are very good for them, why don't you just feed him some of these? He looks at me and says "well, the feeder fish has much more nutritional value then those pellets do, and our tanks have had such a problem with ick lately..I am trying to keep the healthy fish healthy" now, mind you he just took fish out of a tank labeled "fish not for sale" SO I asked him...why are those fish not for sale...do you keep them for the Oscars?? He says flat out..."no, they are sick and we can't sell them" LOL, so I say " You just made that Oscar sick then....the fish you are trying to keep healthy by feeding him something that is supposable the most nutritious...which by the way you are wrong about...was sick, in turn you just diseased the Oscar with whatever that tank has you took the feeder out of....he just looked at me with this blank stare, then I turned and walked away,

The Hikari Cichlid pellets would cost more to feed the oscars. Goldfish are a better choice (Finnancialy speaking) to feed the to the big fish.

WRONG.....A bag of pellets will feed an O for a long time. Feeders are NOT the cheap rout.....

Its probably different in the states but a 20 dollar bag of 300 gram Hikari Cichlid Bio gold verse that same amount of money spent on feeders, and it would probably last you a bit longer when you go to the feeder menu. There is also a different side to the story. LFS employe's can have the tendancy to grossly overfeed the fish with pellets. Its much easier to tell an employe to feed 2 feeders instead of X amount of pellets.

I disagree.

I also don't see the difficulty or difference in telling an employee to feed X number of pellets per day as opposed to X number of feeders. Not to mention the lowered risk of disease or parasitic infestation, as well as how much cleaner traditional packet foods are opposed to live.

nah i agree t\with mystixxx. i pay 22 fer the bag and thatll last me 3 days in one tank wid my barraz where as i can get 80 feeder gudgeons fer 20 and thatll last me 4-5 days.in the one tank. but big boxes of pellets are like 10 to the kilo and thall last me a week and a bit. also hikari are much more nutritionall value fer fish. and really bring out colours wheras sick fish will have a lot less nutritional value then normal feeders and most fish even oscars dont live ff feeders. i believe oscars a gravel sifters as well as insects and fish+ more sich as worms mealworms etc.

also hi5 on telling that employee off and to him i would say ohhh buuuuurrrrrnnnn, shut down and more(tryna not sound to lame)
