So I think my new set is complete.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't know my african cichlids then....

Do you really think a yellow lab can live with a molly though?

I have had mollies in with zebras and the coexisted for years in the same tank.

And the mbuna with the molly?

Yes it can work.

Im not saying it will be easy because there always variables.
I cant judge a fishes personality or temperament after a car ride.

Don't think that stock with Mbuna will work. The German Rams wouldn't stand a chance against the Peacock or Mbuna if one got aggressive.

If provided smaller hiding places I have had a nice lil pack of golden rams with my mbuna before.

It is certainly possible to mix species from all over the world in a tank, however I wouldn't personally try it in this size of a tank. Maybe if you stick with only the more "peaceful" mbuna, such as lab. Perlmutt, etc. it will work. But 54 corner, I would consider only just large enough to do mbuna on their own, I wouldn't go and mix a bunch of fragile fish with them. And fish like gouramis with trailing fins are not a great mix for mbuna, as they nip the long extensions.
Best of luck to you, though I think it's a bit ill-advised in this size tank. I would only get the most passive of mbuna you can find.

I know this is a far fetched dream and challenge but given my tank dimensions I think it will be too hard to be a responsible fish keeper and try and combine all the species I want. ( way too selfish) so I am giving a little more thought and planning more carefully. I will update.

But my primary concern with this post which has gotten too far off topic is given my current filtration I could overstock the crap out of this tank? right? or naw?

That depends on what you would overstock it with. I'd say 200 neon tetras would use less oxygen then 50 6 inch african cichlids.
