I was testing an old heater for my tank to combat the ich infestation. Previous to this the heater did not work at all. I rested it on the bed to see if it would get warm. I was out of the room and smell smoke, I come back in to see the heater has burned INTO MY MATTRESS. That's through several layers of sheets. I was stupid and put it into my fish tank... It shattered. The heaters are not supposed to get THAT hot. Anyways... I ruined some sheets and I'm wondering if I can "sue" the company. It was a hazard to my health. What do you think? Thanks.:D

the heeeeell??

what were your sheets made of? paper?

sad sad so many people go strait for the sue word :thumbsdow

Almost any heater will also have instructions with it, and in the instructions it says never to turn it on while out of water, and make sure the heater is at the same temp as the tank before you put it in. I would chalk this one up to "Lesson Learned".
thats what i was going to say.
see where it says water level or minimum level?
thats how much it can be out of the water and on.
and putting any hot glass in cold water will most likely do that.
so in all they should sue you for being :screwy:
and your lucky all you burnt was some sheets.

so if you left an iron on your clothes and burnt down your house
you could sue the iron company? :screwy:

sorry if this sounds harsh but i hate when people jump right on "i will sue you"
and this was all your fault 100%

I didn't know they could get that hot, but you have no legal foot to stand on, whats with the sueing thing anyway??? Also it goes both ways, putting hot glass in a cold area and putting cold glass in a hot area. This is why you should always use cold water for removing ice of your windscreen.

You won't have a leg to stand on with this in court. Aquarium heaters are to be used in water. They don't get so hot in water but if you turn it on out of water ,it won't turn off because the thermostat built into it is getting a false reading. It will continue to heat up.Hard way to learn though.

lmao tahts so friggin stupid!!! this shud be on the lessons learned...

did u put the heater in the tank after u saw ur bed matress burning? ( most probably u did ) of course it wud shatter! DUHHHH :screwy: go sue their company rofl  good luck.

Btw, thats not how u test aquariums heaters.

Listen, if you want to sue the company for easy money because of your stupidity of puttng a "heater" and plugging it in, even if you thought it didn't work, and then leaving it on your sheets and just want some easy $$ then your a dum!@#@

And if you sue the company that's money they lose, resulting in them having to raise prices if you sue them for a lot, think please before you do dumb things.

hell, just toss your tank on the stove when the heater breaks.

Whoa Whoa! Don't start calling me dumb... It was a mistake. Jeez. I was not thinking straight... Anyways I didn't really mean SUE. I meant ask for a replacement or whatnot. I also didn't think they get that hot regardless of where they are... Jeez.

Heaters are supposed to get that hot. I turned on a heater outside of water once and it melted the plastic that holds it in place. Don't bother suing the company, you'll lose for sure.
