I'll move it for you if I get to keep the tank lol
thanks, but no thanks! that kind of defeats the purpose a little bit LOL
Can you find a bunch of friends and rent some of those glass movers suction cups. Are you having to go up or down any stairs and how large of doors will you have to go through. About 8 big guys should make your move not that bad. If you can find those heavy duty glass movers suction cups get 2 for each person. The stand will feel light after the tank. Good luck can honestly say I don't envy you.
I don't have that many friends who would be free to help at once...plus my friends aren't the strongest people lol
also, I don't want to damage the tank in the process...
and, ya, i totally believe your last statement hehe
thanks~
not with something that weights 1000 lbs my friend lol
As the owner of a moving company I can tell you its not worth the money for a moving company to move something like that. We have to charge a set hourly rate generally. For me to do a job like that I'd only get like $125 / hr (possibly more for extra help) and at most I could probably set a 2 hour minimum. Pricing is dictated via the household carriers bureau. The liabilty is far too high to be worthwhile. I would agree with calling a trucking company, they operate at a different pricing structure.
thanks for the info! that's really helpful. I haven't contacted any trucking companies, but I did ask one of the aquarium maintenance companies locally and they told me to find a machinery moving company. however, their rate is thru the roof...but apparently they move large aquariums pretty often... I think i still may have to resort to a small moving company just because of the rate.
MFK Fam could come down to help!!! I got furniture movers and stuff. Go to home depot to see if you can rent a flatbed(my friend told me she only paid $20 a day). I know a 240 is nothing compared to a 450g but 8ft glass is still heavy hahaha. if its possible to roll it around. that what i did. GLuck though!!!
omg that will be AWESOME! we can do a MFK BBQ too haha. ya, this 450 is a beast to move... with the stand it's close to 1000 lbs! where as an acrylic tank of the same size only weighs 1/3 of that. but I really just can't stand the scratches acrylic tanks. I'm gonna keep on looking for a small moving company to do the job before anything else I guess...Thanks!!
I moved the a glass tank that same size a few years ago. There was 8 of us and the steel stand was bolted and siliconed to the tank. It was a process of carry 5 or 6 feet set it down and rest. Over and over until we got it to the trailer. I would recommend a trailer instead of a flatbed so you don't have to lift as high. Once it was at my house, I bolted large casters to the stand and rolled it in place. Then jacked up each end and unbolted the casters. Was easy to move once I had it on casters. If you do it yourself it won't be fun, but it is doable.
oh man! so 6 people would not be enough for sure then! I guess if myself and my friends included, we have 9 ppl total, but the 3 of us would combine to match like 2 of them strong movers. the trailer is definitely a good suggestion. I will tell the moving company about that. and to add onto the difficulty, i have stairs, although it's only 2 steps up and 2 steps down. I guess we can go through the side door into the backyard to skip the stairs, but I don't know if the side door is wide enough...I will measure it tonight. thanks for the advice!
6 people wont be safe, I had 6 of us all builders/construction and my 300g in 10mm with double Base was almost to heavy in the tight spots... Mines 195kg empty and its how awkward it is to hold...
yep yep, from what I gathered, 6 people isn't enough. I guess it's break down to about 150 lbs per person, and that's a really heavy load.
