But not to aquariums I have been doing salties for 12 years and currently have one set up. But I scored a 48x48x25 cube (240g) with a stand for $400. This one I want to do fresh But I have not done any freshwater fish in 20 years and I am pretty sure things have changed. So I am open to filtration and stocking suggestions please no guppies lmao. Thanks in advance for the input. BTW this tank may be changed to plywood with 2 viewing panels and put in a corner wall will decide this in time let me know what you think look forward to contributing to this community.

Welcome to MFK. Sorry i cant help ya with your question but im sure someone will chime in shortly. Enjoy the site!

Welcome aboard and nice score on the tank + stand. You'll want to search and post in the setup and filtration section. You'll get more responses for filtration questions answered there.. If you're handy, maybe build your own custom filter system... look in the DIY section for ideas / help. As far a what to put in it besides guppies...the choice is all in what you like.

I consider myself to be somewhat handy being into saltwater is expensive so you learn a lot of diy to save some cash I will go check the filtration area and see whats up hopefully some of my salty experience will carry over thx for the reply

I was thinking sump of some sort but what type of mech. filtration? fiberfil, socks, sponge? How about bio filtration bio balls? Can some type of ATS be used what type of algae can i do where do i get it to start seeding ETC? sorry I am rambling just a lot running through my head ATM Thx

Use socks and a sump just like a salt. Grow algae in the sump if you want, feed to the pleco you will get. Yes, you will get a pleco...a Royal pleco. There is really quite alot in common with the two disciplines I am starting to understand. If beautiful fish are on your mind, Parkinsons Rainbows are very nice fish.
If you just want to try things out, buy two(at least to start) Hang On Back(HOB) filters like Emperor 400 or Hagen AC 110. Those are good for a start and wont kill the pocket book. You could even get a couple Marineland Mag. 350 pro units. That is a huge tank you are starting out with so you have a huge option list. Keep it simple. Good luck.
Welcome to MFK.

I like the keep it simple part LOL unfortunately HOB filters are a no go as the tank has a 3 1/2 euro brace however it is drilled for an over flow 2 holes out one in. There are also secondary CL holes as well these are capped as I realy dont need them. Not sure the direction I am taking the tank yet I may pull it apart and make it a 60 x 60 x 30 plywood with a pair of 46 x 23 viewing windows and position the tank as an in wall corner tank I hope this makes sense lol

Stocking ideas are going to be very broad... I think first you should decide what you want to do with the tank...

Here are some ideas i came up with

Planted with small fish + inverts

Biotope type tank with natives

High tech planted tank

Low tech planted tank

Simple driftwood and fish tank

Or even a paludarium / vivarium
