If u have abosilutly no clue on stocking i would go to the photo lounge and snoop around. get an idea of whats out there. although ur on a site for monster fish so u wont see guppies platies and things like that in there. then come back and let us know what you liked and we could give u better ideas for stocking. or like stated above narrow down ur ideas for what u would like to do. just saying give me ideas and tank size ur going to get 100 ideas u dont like just to get one u like.

Biotope iss where is was leaning its very easy to get crappie, bass, perch, bluegill, channel and mud cat from local waters but i think i will need serious filtration and a nice quarantine setup.

imo if you've done salt and your looking for something interesting you may consider going w/ a reticulated stingray. That footprint is excellent for bottom dwellers and if you've ever been interested in owning a ray or shark.. FW rays are where I would snoop around. as for filtration you're not going to do anything much different w/ a Wet/dry set up for FW as you would SW only drop the protein skimmer and additives( unless you go towards a High tech planted set-up imo the "reef" keepers of the FW world.)

If you're strearing towards a native tank be very careful of water perameters. You won't likely need a heater, but you may need a chiller to keep them successfully.

and If you haven't yet... spend many hours reading threw the DIY threads.. and species sub-forums ( you'll get the best specific answers there, The search engine is a good place to start. and obviosuly posting specific questions will get you the most refined answers.)

and Welcome to MFK! =)

I'd do 2 big cichlids and a cat.thats an AWESOME footprint for 2-3 BIG aggressive guys

freshwater rays to pirahnas i like this place no need for a heater or chiller here our lakes are shallow year round because of drought so the temp fluctuations are crazy here the footprint is also likely to change from 48x48 to 60x60 if i do a plywood build so still keeping options open def. do not want planted i have a reef now and its a pita beautiful but still a pita

ah crap.. saw you where located in TX.. think rays may be illegal as well as P's.. that would be where I would first hit up then is the pinned thread on legalities.. we're lucky here in the great white north.. not much survives outside so not much is regulated here. If you're wanting to avoid to much hassle then def go w/ some larger predetory fish that have some personality. The filtration will need ot be a beast.. but otherwise just water changes and regular food = happy fishies.

I would do some sa cichlids. I see that size as perfect for sa cichlids. They have a lot of personality too!
