So many Sales, which one?

the 55g comes with 2 two 18" lights and cheap plastic tops. the lights are cheaply made and literally break without warning.

i would buy the 55g (tank only), call around some glass shops around your area and get glass cut for it (1/8 thick should be under $20) and lastly go to walmart and buy the 48" shop light (around $10). ohh and don't forget flat black spray paint (under $5) to paint the white shop light. so total you would have around $90 into the whole thing.

Yeah but Im tempted to get a 40 breeder that extra few inches of width make all the difference. I lose a foot of length but the width allows me to keep slightly larger fish.

even with the 40g breeder your still very limited. ask me how i know. but i do like the 55g a little more.

Thanks youve been a ton of help. I keep earing different thing. Im going to make a poll and see which is suggested. I like the hop light. For the hood, I can just get a piece of glass cut to fit over the whole tank and set th shop light on top?

yes, get them to cut 2 panels of glass, one for the "door" and one for the "light". you can also get a small tube of silicon and glue a handle to the "door" glass so you can open it for feeding and what not. if you can't find a glass shop, they also sell polycarbonate clear panels at home depot/lowes that you can cut yourself because they are plastic.

The 55 limits fish size for sure, the 40 breeder at least is wide enough to keep a long fish in.

I have used a 48" HD light fixture on 2 tanks now, way cheap and very usable. You can use 'aquarium' bulbs in them for the right color/brightness.
