small fish cost less to ship and can bag them more per bag, also easier to mix with other similar species to get pass fish & game inspectors if you are importer.... :D

my Lfs only orders fish in their juvenile or fry stages. they can import them much cheaper and they can sell them much faster. my Lfs is the chain store big als, every location does this. this may be uncommon in your area but it makes logical sense. it's extremely difficult to sell a 24" alligator gar in comparison to a 2-5" one that they can either mislabeled as florida or spotted or sell to someone thinking it's a cute little fish. same as the pbass. For us we usually want the fish to be bigger, I'd much rather buy a 6" pbass then try my luck raising little 1.5" fingerings but fish stores see it the other way. the faster the fish leave the tanks the faster they can restock

My LFS has been getting tiny fish in recently too they've had a tiny jardini (must have only just lost the sack before postage ) smallest I've seen , they also had a tiny lei and now have bass that are 1" basically fry :D we put it down to space in postage too
