jp, you still have your mixed tank? Nobody explained what a mixed tank is yet. I can tell you but there's nothing like seeing it in pics.

It's mixing the pygos together in the same tank (caribe, piraya, reds, ternz).

Maybe tellemuno can post a pic?

Alright, so that makes it easy. Mannies are out. I might be moving in the next year or two, and would hate to loose my fish I get attached to because it got too stressed out or something. Oh well.

I wish there were some caribe for sale, I'd give them a go I believe. :) As it is though, the elongatus and ruby red spilos are looking more and more attractive. :)

Check with Shark Aquarium, believe they have baby caribes right now, $25 each, $20 each for 5 or more. email G at info@sharkaquarium.com

Unfortunately I no longer have my mix shoal, down size to just one tank now and the shoal was sold before the rhom (need to free up the tank for someone to pick it up)other wise I totally would've kept them.
here are some pics from the good old days :)

Awww, a thing of beauty. I can understand people getting the impression that RBPs are too common but a mixed tank is truly a thing of beauty.

I really like how Ecuador red looks, it's the green one in one of the feeding frenzy.
I've never seen anyone with that much green and red (even when crammed in lfs's small tank).
up close pic when I first got it.

So are any of those super red bellies? Or just 'regular' red bellies and caribe? Very cool!!! Take em a while to get that large though eh? How big a tank was that?

I really think the so call "super reds" are over rated, all the ones I've seen in the stores are pale looking, personally I wouldn't spend the extra bucks for those.
I had 3 wild reds in the shoal, two small ones were from Peru and the bigger one from Ecuador.
the tank is a standard 180g (6'x2'x2'), I got the caribes around 2" and in about 6-7 months they grew to 6-7", will probably hit 8"-9" or so by the end of first year but I had to let them go before that. I've been cut back on feeding once they reached 5-6", only 2-3 feeding a week, sometimes 1-2 feedings, other wise they might be a bit bigger.
if you never kept piranhas before getting a solo serra species can get boring quick, a lot of the times they'll hide or just floating at one spot and not doing much. with a shoal you get more action going on and the feeding is always fun to watch.
here's an old feeding video of my old shoal.

here're some pics from a member from a piranha website, those are full size adult caribes and the tank is close to 300g, they fill out the tank nicely.
