One of my friend's moms gave me a 29 gallon tank with hood, gravel, filter, plants, and everything for free!!! i cant believe how nice she was to me. my main question is though, what kind of natives could i keep in a 29 gallon. thnx

Well first off. What kind of fish are you looking to put in it. Do you like monsters, community fish, gentle giants, ect.?

ummmmm idk really what i want in there, just something that will liven it up

Well you could do a nice darter and topminnow tank. Get some greenside darters and maybe bluefin killies or some other kind of minnows. I think that tank would be best with small fish like that. Not trying to scare you away or anything but you do realise that you are going to have to either order all of these fish or some how catch them yourself? To collect them yourself you need waders, a seign net (most states have a size limit), and/or a dip net. It takes some time and initial investment but if you can I would do it. I myself am getting into collecting my own speices for my tank. I should be going on a trip coming up this march or april.

yes, i do realize that, but i have a few sources for getting some, i might just go with something else, i was just wondering what i could get for that size tank

i know this jumps off the subject of natives, but how would a leaf fish fit in there

Yea a leaf fish would be good but if you have sources for natives I would deffinatly go that route. You will be very satisfied especially if you collect them yourself.

some sunfish or a rock bass.

some sculpins and gobys are very interesting.

Most sculpins require cooler water don't they?

i dont think it would be to warm without a heater. 68-72 is what my tank stays at through the year.

yea in a 29 i think you would be limited to small minnows. i like the leaf fish idea, ive always been partial to them for some reason.
