So on a whim I put together a nano

And if you are still not having any luck, go with something that has a little more power in the lights department. Even if you only add another light like you have (You can go to the hardware store and see how much it will cost. I don't think it would cost over $20 and that price is including buying another light), it will greatly improve the lighting in your aquarium.

Ok say I'm going with anubias, java moss, and riccia fluitans (I like that material and idea). I will get a moss ball and attatch it spread out at the base of my driftwood. Position my driftwood similar to how it is now and take a few sections of that material cut to go around the front of the wood and wieght it down on the back right corner with the rock. Around the rock I will attach netting along the halfway point down so the top is still visable. And then in the back where that baby amazon sword is I will attach the anubias to a small piece of driftwood I have and set it back there. Soo basically it will have the same hard scape but with plants attached to it. I'm going to get my material, plants and substrate on fri. Does all of this sound good. In my head it will look awsome. I am going to get the excel also on fri. I have a lot of really good fish shops around here but I have never seen (but never looked) that riccia fluitans. So I will call around tomarrow. Does everything sound good?

It all sounds good to me. Good luck finding Riccia Fluitans in a store. I had to order my off of ebay. They just send a small clump of it and you can sandwich it or place it anywhere you want. If you find that it is dieing out too much or just not growing, take it out and let it float on the surface of the water for a few days. It is normally a floating moss but can survive underwater when enough CO2 is there, which can be accomplished with Flourish Excel.
And if you put moss on the driftwood and need a way to anchor it, I found that a cheap netting that works with anchoring rootless plants and still letting it grow out is a shower mesh sponge.
Here is a link to the thread where I already posted how to do it. It is working nicely thus far.

Good luck and post photos of it!

I was going to use the craft material for the riccia, and fishing line for the java moss and anubias. I heard that works. I am going to use those poofs (my wife calls them) to attach to the large rock. How long does it take for the riccia to fill out the grid?

Also how does dwarf hairgrass do in low light?

In my setup, I am using CO2 and high lighting and it has been about two weeks and it is about two inches tall and is starting to spread. It all depends on how much you get and how well you spread it out. When you put it in the aquarium sandwiched between the two pieces of crafting stuff, none of it will actually show. But it will grow out in a few days. It is a pretty fast grower in my conditions.
My girlfriend loves the stuff because it pearls a lot (see the tops of each one are shiny. I don't have a high quality camera, so it didn't turn out that nice)

I also have it growing on my rocks (using the poofs) and it has been two days and it is starting to grow up out of the net.

And I have heard of dwarf hair grass working in low lighting. It might not spread fast. But as long as you have a carbon source, it should be able to live.

Looks good. I am super stoked dude thanks for the help and I will be sure to keep a photo log that I will post when I'm several weeks into the tank. Keep an eye out. Thanks again.

ur lighting is ok. i have 2 of those exact bulbs on a 10g with no co2(cause it is unnessecary) and no ferts. When it was still heavily planted it grew like crazy. i had many kinds of plants, not all low light and they grew rediculously fast. ur lighting is pretty good for that tank

Ok so final list here I am going to buy all this stuff on fri and would like some comformation that all sounds good. New substrate (eco-complete or like), excel, some kind of all purpose liq. Fert. (Suggestion?), anubias nana (petite), java moss, riccia (carpet w/plastic gridding), dwarf hairgrass, microsword. Does all that sound like it will work in my setup? Does anyone foresee any potential problems?

And a quick question about dosing, everything say x ml per 10 gallons how do I brake this down for my 3 gallon tank and what can I use to measure for each dose? I think with all my substrate and hard scape I'm probably at 2.5 gallons. Thanks for looking and thanks for any advice you can offer.
