there is the red texas cichlid that is a cross between a texas and a blood parrot. or i have heard of using red devil cichlid and texas to make a red texas but now i wonder could i be able to mix a salvini and a blood parrot and make a super red salvini. i think this is a possibility because of the red already on a salvini so whats yo guyses thoughts only positive please and no hybrid bashing i am in the hybrid section so hopefully im safe from that so no problems will occur in this thread thank you

don't worry about haters. If that's what they like to do with their time and lives, then let them waste their own energy. NP. We enjoy :)

Anyways.

Breeding to a velvet red fish such as Parrots and Devils are to get the fading genetic. The fading genetic takes out any dark pigments. If the fish inherited the fade.. The darker your original fish's base color, the deeper the red will be after fade. If in Texas or pearled fishes, the pearls will no longer be blue but are now white. Because blue is a darker color and the fading took out the darker pigments in the blue..

Salvini? IDK. Give it a try and GL.

I saw salvini BP hybrids. It was very beautiful but had no reds. Pearly with yellow though. Maybe if you got some that inherited the fading gene some might be red.

I am thinking a super red is red texas just better quality ,alot red texas or so called red texas is just a failed attemp of a red texas.

then if not slalvini that fade what other fish can get th fader gene other then flowerhornss and texas

That would be really cool, if you get good results please post pics! Btw, I can only speak for me but I don't hate hybrids. I hate people who sell hybrids to their LFS which then sell them to unsuspecting people.

You have to look at what other traits your parent fish will be contributing.
Personally I think the body style of a sal x Texas = no good.

It would be important to consider here other ca cichlids that can fade.. for example, zz flowerhorns that are based on trimac that inherited the fading genetic. being still in the amphilophus genus, it seems that trimac cichlids can accept the fade gene as mostly trimac flowerhorns can, although from what I've seen fish that are mostly trimac keep the trimac colouration when young and fade at a much larger size than fish with more of a red devil or synspilum genetic makeup, e. g. red dragons. from what I've seen the bulk of fader flowerhorns are based on the larger bodied fish that take much of their build and head genes from fading cichlids.
Given that salvini are still relativley similar to trimacs and midas/devils.. i think one could assume that it is possible enough to try it... allthough I would guess most of the brood would not have the gene and those that did would fade at a larger size. The gene could be bred in sucessive generations by breeding the salvini/faders back to the fader species. if the fading does not happen in a significant way with the first generation, then it could be possible to breed darker and darker red salvinis in the subsequent generations.

if I was doing it also, I would start by pairing a salvini to a darker red red devil, as blood parrots have more complicated fading genetics and are much meeker than red devils.

I would try it though if i had some salvinis.
