SO SO SO SO SO MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Stuff happens thats why I always leave reminders before I feed and start feeding frequently and more often before I leave so I knw they have eaten more

i measure the food out into egg cups, one per day im gone if its a decent length of time away.
i dont trust anyone enough to feed my fish out of the tub. i still leave a note stating "no matter how much they appear to be begging do not feed more".

it doesnt take a genius to listen to simple and clear instructions on how much food to put in, not even 20 minutes. some people just need to do as they are told.

You live and you learn..I've made the mistake of having a neighbor watch/feed my fish once - and I spent way more the 20 minutes training..I was gone for two weeks. I was left with a mess when I returned. What they thought was normal, I viewed as a disaster. Either you get a friend (that knows what they're doing) or do what I did and buy a feeder.

I bought a Eheim everyday fish feeder a month ago for about $40. Put three types of food (flake/pellet/crumb mix - floating/sinking, etc) set the portion/feeding times and tested it out for the 2 week period I was leaving for - ahead of time. Worked like a charm in testing AND when we were gone...no over feeding and aside from the fish being a little skittish when we came back, It was like we never left.

I had something similar happen to me and I learned you can trust non-fish people to understand fish care, even as simple it sounds. I got one of those monthly pill things... I don't know what there called but you put your pills in them and there is a spot for every day, and I filled it with fish food and anything frozen I would put in separate one portion baggies in the freezer. I also wrote out specific instructions and put sticky notes on each take :] And if I'm not gone for that long I just have someone turn off and on the lights fish can go a couple days to a week or more without food.

my GF knows what do do, and I always have her underfeed anyway

when we both travel, for one week or less, I let the fish go w/o any food . . . longer than 7 days, I use auto-feeders

No one feeds my tanks...ever. No one performs water changes on my tanks...ever. I've never had a problem with my tanks...ever ;).

I'm going away for four days at the end of July and the fish food will be locked up, in a lock box. Explicit, explicit instructions that if any equipment fails, that the fish will be ok for a few hours until they can get ahold of me.
