So the depression kicks in :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thx again Wyld... I had to do a lot of maint. on my new Armatus tank so I didn't get a chance to get the pics yet. I will remove the Chemi Pure tomorrow. Since the stuff lasts like 6 months I can put it in the new Armaus tank since I will not have any live plants in with them. ( I don't want to throw away $50.00) lol.... How long does it normally take for them to go through that stage??

Excuse me, all plants need CO2. :)
Co2 addition is not needed for his aquarium. It isn't needed in most planted aquariums. Before you go rolling on the ground, maybe you should think about the posts. I often call fertilizers nutrients as they are one and the same, however, fertilizer doesn't exactly cover co2.

Depends on the setup. In my tanks they take about 3 days, in store tanks, it can take a couple months.

I didn't mean to offend you, I just find such general statements can sometimes be inaccurate, and well, funny. Every single tank is different. Let me explain what I mean. While it's easy to assume his tank doesn't need CO2, and I suspect his problem is likely due to the chemical media stripping CO2, you can't know for sure until the media is no longer in use, and CO2 levels checked. Swords love CO2, and suck it right up. I have a 200+ gal. that has a couple of 24" swords, plus a few other smaller plants. This tank shouldn't need CO2 either. Unhook the CO2 from this tank, and the CO2 will fairly quickly be used up. This will then cause the PH to rise. The plants will all but stop growing, and algae will begin. On the flip side, I have a 75 gal. with a lot of small swords that I'm growing out, do great with only a weekly water change for the few small fish in there, plus a few root tabs for the plants every once in a while. The 75 even has higher lighting. Every tank is different. I'm no expert, this is just what I have learned from my own experience from trial and error.

His main plant with problems is a sword, which means either they are all easier plants, or they are growing fine. Either way, co2 injection is not needed in most planted aquaria. The pH will only go up if he injected co2 to bring it down. pH for the most part does not affect the growth of plants directly. I know that his tank doesn't need co2, because, he didn't state that he had any other problems, which if he had plants that needed co2 injection, he would have mentioned them being sickly. Since he did not, obviously he doesn't need to be injecting co2. While co2 does accelerate growth, it also can accelerate the growth of algae.
