Hikari stuff is good.I've been using their sinking cichlid pellets to really good results.I was planning to get some Massivor when this stuff runs out but it's cheaper and I'm seeing decent growth with my little ones.

My indo and my former ntt(got eatten by a gar) were always stable when the lights were on and unstable whem thr lights turned off. The indo still does this right now. Got a new larger ntt hides all day is unstable... He comes out randomly. Ill try to get him to like me and hopefully on pellets

When my IT was small (around 2"-3") dither fish made a huge difference. He had been in a 30 decorated with rock caves and a lot of plastic plants but he constantly hid and was always unstable. I moved him into a 100 with the same style of rock caves and plants, and a dozen rainbowfish. The next day he was out in the open and bright as can be. He never looked back and remained stable for as long as I had him (until he was about 7").

I came here to post this....

I was on the verge of getting rid of my half-dozen ATs (D. Polotas) as they almost never swam in the open and were almost never stable in their dedicated grow-out tank.. (Water quality and filtration was very good for that tank.)

Then, as a last ditch gamble, I moved them to my 4ft Malawi tank to see if they would like that "decor" (no plants, only rocks on sand) and almost immediately ALL 6 of them became stable..

It's been about 1 week since the move and 4 of the 6 are always stable, the other 2 change stripes based on their mood.

While I won't exactly call the Malawi Haps as "dither" fish.. Keeping Dats with other fish (approx equal size) did help my ATs to become stable and stay stable longer..

Cheers,
Sid

Dats seem to be stable when there nervous or when there in a super packed tank! That's just my opinion. I really think it all depends of the fish!
