Hey everyone,
So I went to the pet store (which is probably not the best place to buy these) I dont know.. and bought more cichlids.. He said that I have what they call a red zebra and chipolte (I think thats what he called it) anywho, he told me that I couldn't get the peacocks because the other ones would kill them.. Is he right? I just don;t know enough to what I can mix with them .. Help?!?

Peacocks are the more fragile and sissy africans :)

This woudl psosibly be yoru zebra = Metriaclima estherae

But like wurm said without pics it is going to be difficult to help.. And generally Peacocks are fragile.

Here are the pics.. I have posted them before..so don;t get mad at me for repeats ok?!?

Some people mix peacocks or haps with mbuna, its risky probably not the best direction for your first cichlid tank.

Certain Haps can be keep with Mbuna, but Haps generally need more open space because they are typically open water fish that live in a different part of the lakes. Also, Certain haps Prey on Mbuna so watch these fish when older, another thing to take into considerating is diet. Mbuna are for the most part herbs and haps are carnivors, so feeding is going to be difficult with a mixed tank because to much meet makes mbunas bloat and ultimately die. To much Vegi's and some Haps would be malnutritioned, but a good staple pellet would be good for both.

Hope this helps some.

Fish pictured are:

1. Metriaclima estherae
2. Melanochromis chipokae (male, looks like it's starting to change color)
3. Melanochromis auratus

The last two will readily hybridize and are both very aggressive species. Not to mention that M. chipokae have the potential of getting quite large at around 8".
