really, Chipokae can reach 8 inches? Never seen them close to that size.

A reputable and knowledgeable keeper of African cichlids reported one of their males to have reached an exceptional length of 10" TL.
I personally have seen some big chipokae, 6-7" females, 7-8" males and that puts them right up there with P. crabro and L. fuellebroni for big as far as big mbuna go. Not counting the uncommon Petrotilapia sp. of course.

Wow, that is crazy and makes that a big and viscious fish. I could only imagine how much damage a 10 inch Chipokae would do, no doubt ruling the tank at that size.

THanks everyone, Very imformative stuff here.. Kind of scared about the chipokae getting that big.. I have I know 2 of them in the tank now.. they are both the same size.. I thinkn one is male the other a female. i have a 55 gallon.. thinking maybe a bigger tank in the future???!!?

You have two chipokae and one auratus or just the one chipokae and an auratus? Both are aggressive species. The auratus won't grow quite as large but they still make a stink. When it comes to hyper-aggressive mbuna bigger is always better. Smaller spaces only magnify their aggression issues.
