I just tell people the fish relax me and keep me from all of my old bad habbits (booze, etc). They look at me like I'm crazy.....then I tell them I really just have the big tanks to hide my Porn collections!!!! Most guys go "ohhhh, thats a great idea!!!"
I often get the............"So I hear you've got a zoo at home"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
i either tell them i keep monsters in glass cages or i start explaining filtration...that stops all the questions
After close to 30 years living with wolves and wolfdogs talking about our fish dosn't seem like that big of a deal to me. You can usually tell the honestly intrested from the polite conversationalists. Those are the ones who listen in rapt attention to every species in your tanks and then smile and nod and say..."My mother has guppys do you have any of those?"
i force my co-workers to listen to my fish stories...although when they find out how many tanks i have they think i am crazy....
but i have managed to get about 5 ppl interested enough to buy tanks....
on the condition that i help 'em get it set up
and i ask them all the time when r you comming over to see the fish they are very excited to meet you...
but the best thing i try to impart on the ppl around me is that fish are intelligent creatures that deserve respect...some get it some don't..oh well all you can do is talk and maybe someone will listen...
