So What really is the Minimum tank size for an Oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can go 20g as long as you have a 75g sump.

55 is possible. However the oscar will most likely touch both ends width wise. 75 is much more comfortable. After getting my 180 i cant imagine going back to 12 inch widths

A 75 is good. I have a pair of convicts and a 8" o in my 75. Works just fine.

Well sump aside, 20 gallons would really stunt the oscars growth severely

Why? are you of the understanding that tank size has to do with a fishes growth? Fish grow to the size of the tank? Thought that was a myth?

i rescued a 13 inch oscar out of a 75 gallon last week.... he fit in there just fine, though he is much happier in my 180....

ive seen an oscar grow to 12" in a 29 so i think the tank stunting thing is crap (with oscars anyway). reason i know it was 12" because its mouth was touching the front and its tail was touching the back and a 29 is 30x18x12... needless to say it was rescued.

hows that rescuing? imo a 75 is perfect for an oscar to live happily.
