I've noticed a trend where it seems as though the better someone is at photography the less attention their fish pic threads get. At least that's been my perception and I'll fully admit I just came back from a short hiatus and perhaps my perception is skewed. Though I will also say I've seen a talented photographer here recently asking for their attachments and pics to be taken down due to feeling the same way(which by the way is petty but I understand their frustration). I've also seen a decrease in pic posts by some of our most notable photographers Aquamojo, greenterra, jcardona1 and xander who despite having amazing picture will barely get any replies when they do post.

Now this following statement is conjecture on my part based on the decline in their posts and the lack of responses to their posts as none of them(xander, Aquamojo, jcardona1, greenterra) have said anything and I'm unaware of their feelings in regards to this subject. I'm just assuming based on what I perceive that perhaps them posting less is in relation to the less interaction they're getting from the community. Now I'm assuming that based on my own state of mind which they might not share and I will admit I myself can be petty at times. It's personally hard for me to understand wanting to be part of a community if there's little to no interaction and despite their skill, effort and all they contribute to the site they go by largely ignored or at very least are appreciated but have no way of knowing based on the responses to their threads.

Which leads me to me question, why do so little members respond to higher quality pic threads?

I myself am not as talented as them but still I take a decent pics and get asked quite often how do I do it via pm, yet my threads will go by with relatively few responses. Now I know this thread may wind up being a total flop and get no responses still out of curiosity I had to ask. To me high quality pics enrich the hobby by making id's easier and generally giving people a real interpretation of what potential a fish may have. So why do they seem to get no responses while fuzzy cell phone pics can have responses for days?

I am not a old timer on this web page by any means, perhaps 2 months? I have seen allot of great pics in that time. I usually try to say great pics, or great fish or great tank, that being said I look at these large tank with rays and such with these fantastic pics an comments on what type and all that and I really have nothing to say, I know nothing about them, great pics? yes, great and amazing fish? yes. but to comment on them when i really do not have a clue as to what goes into having them just does not feel right. post an Oscar? a Jag? a JD? these I know and feel qualified to comment on. In the future
I will try to comment wither i know what it is or not, I know I like validation and recognition when i post pics.

Well, I mean... I most agree with popss. You post the pics, we enjoy them, look at them...!

Hey, "thanks for sharing", "nice pic", "great fish", what else do you want?
A medal, or a chest to wear on???

That makes sense, still it would be nice to hear something along the lines of a compliment or even perhaps a question about the fish in question. Though I will say that the cichlid section one of the most active section and greenterra and Aquamojo used to frequent them often because they specialize in keeping and photographing CA/SA cichlids and yet they'd still get relatively few responses. Mo even posts pics of newly discovered cichlids because he collects them in the wild and he used to get asked all the time about locality morphs, now no ones really responding. I'm lucky enough to still see his pics because of FaceBook as that's where he primarily posts his collection now. It's a pity too because he has some impressive specimens that I think people would really profit from seeing. As in my opinion there's no better inspiration for taking good care of your fish then seeing a just how beautiful a well cared for fish can look.

I'm sorry you misunderstood, I said there's little to no comments and yes just like you appreciate responses to your threads so do they. Why you seem to be insinuating anything other then that and in a defensive manner I don't know why? By the way ironically there is a award on MFK which I did find funny that you mentioned wanting one as I wouldn't mind.

I am pretty sure there are a lot of lurkers that see the nice pictures but just do not have much to say about it unless they have some sort of question or opinion on it. Also, maybe it is just me but this forum seems to have slowed down a lot these last couple of years.

Spoken like a true lurker. lol! Joking of course but seriously thanks for the input though I'm not sure I agree. I do see up and down swings in posting but I was under the impression that we where on an upswing though my perception is probably based more on me being more active now and therefore just assuming the same about others. You can see by my post count that I'm not exactly a overly active poster and much like you I probably only feel the need to post when I have something to contribute worthwhile. Still when I see a good pic I try to compliment it because I know that it's a skill that one has to put quite a bit of effort into, much like when I see an impressive fish or tank. By the way nice avatar pic. :D

No offense intended buddy. Maybe you can initiate the responses by asking a question or making a comment along with the pic. Like the origin of the fish or the species.

I enjoy looking at pics, the quality doesn't make a lot of difference as long as the subject is interesting.

I guess then I should apologize because I assumed about the intention of your post, so I apologize for assuming. Good suggestion by the way, I have offered people to ask questions about fish pics I've posted if they where curious but perhaps I should go a step further and offer some info. on my own. Matter of fact I think I'll try it, so keep an eye out you may just see your suggestion being put to use by me in the near future.

so? gonna comment on JS avatar fish but not on my jag avatar? and yup that's my Jag, she a sweetie. but back to the point, lot of posts here, stuff gets pushed back to the second and third page in a matter of a few hours, so folks may not even see them unless they go back a page or so, not something i usually do as just to many posts to go through.
