So what's the deal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lol few responses on pics? whenever I post on a thread it just seems to end. I get no reply to a question or 0 replies to my thread.

perhaps it's related to the fact we can't get enough pics to hold a photo of the month contest?
It very well could be as who wants to put all that effort(yep taking those pics requires quite a bit of preparation and patience) into a couple of replies? Or worse yet your someone whose just learning to take pics, have a natural knack but don't even know because your pics get virtually no responses so you assume your actually not any good and just wind up losing confidence and eventually interest. Enough people getting shot down by that feeling is probably not going to be good for POTF. That's a good point Gill Blue that hadn't occurred to me, thanks.

Lol! I've felt the same way at times, could have sworn that my replies to threads was always the final nail in their coffin. I had even considered asking a Global to change my title to Official MFK Thread Killer at one point. :D Though I will admit I found it more funny than anything else and got amused when my post would wind up being the last one in a thread seeming to prove my perception. Heck sometimes I'd just comment on a thread I didn't like because I figured that would kill it.

Ehh,no offense kolt but some of your posts tend to equal about four or five separate posts.

^ hell so do mine, but that just means we give more details then others, and details help. Some people are just lazy lol you can still get the gyst of it by scanning through it

None taken, Ballin has often told me the same and I'm not above laughing at myself or admitting my own short comings(most of the time).

Good to know I'm not alone. In my case it's a combination of giving more details(like you) but I also lack the ability to be concise a lot of times rambling on repetitively.

Yeah, just kidding and I welcome your posts, especially if I can learn something from them.

I've noticed a trend where it seems as though the better someone is at photography the less attention their fish pic threads get....
I try not just post a comment that just says nice...or awesome as it seems I'm spamming. There are a few times I do it but I try not to more then 1 or 2 times a month.

Since I've already post. All the pics here are nice :)

I feel the same way. Most of the threads I created have had very little response. I think I only have one that went over 100 post. I even made a game thread that was an absolute hit on another forum(I didn't post it) but it seems to be a dud here(time to bump it since I'm thinking about it).

It's all good, I know you sigh to yourself every time you see me post. I know Kolt put somethin' worthwhile in there but do I have to read through that monstrous post to find it? Can't he just put the info. in the beginning and then ramble on.lol

As long as your not throwing out compliments at everyone I don't think it'd come off as spamming. Though I will admit I myself sometimes struggle when complimenting as I don't want to just repeat the same sentiment as everyone else just did as I worry about it coming off as disingenuous.

As for threads they're hit and miss here and honestly defy my reasoning at times. For instance I wrote up a fairly informative yet basic thread about UV sterilizers, their application, dwell time table for effective levels of sterilization, their effects on redox and turbidity, disease and parasites etc, etc and it barely got any if any comments. Yet while it hung there on the first page of the section I saw numerous threads asking questions about UV sterilizers the very same questions my thread already answered, my post even included links to further more exact info. By the way a properly installed UV sterilizer is an awesome boon to an aquariums overall health, I've experienced the benefits first hand and continue to do so.

The forum does seem to have slowed down quite a bit since I joined six years ago.

I am quite guilty of Kolt's complaint. I've gotten very handy with a camera, but most of my updates are with the cell phone and the good pics are few and far between. I can't complain too much though because my thread has 35 pages and over 22,000 views.

A way around this seems to be maintaining 'growout threads' for key fish in a member's collection. This concept is really gaining momentum in the OC; I'll admit that I've been pushing it though. This way lots of people are subscribed and see updates, even if they don't reply.

+1 growout threads are popular
