So what's the deal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The responds got long winded so i didnt read beyond page one but maybe this has already been addressed

Not too long ago there were grips and jokes about the site being reduced to a bunch of nice pics and nice set up posts. We stop doing it and now thats unproductive too?

Ps, could you use people who are actually active for your example next time? Of course inactive members get lil or no responds. Theyre not around to keep their thread going. However, i know theyre just examples of good photographers that you listed with no regard to recent activity

getting mixed signals myself, i am hearing no one posts on great pics but phone taken quality, then i am hearing folks just post Nice? cool pics? or nice fish. I tended just post on fish a knew. Then i started posting on great pics I had no ideal about. they where or are great pics so i posted nice! cool looking, awesome looking. Think i am done with this one. as its a no win.

Exactly how i feel pops. That is the one instance that id like a "like" or "thumb up" button, Photo threads

Personally i think you/we should just can the photo section of the subforums. i don't frequent every sub forum but ive seen too many threads doing well in their general sub forum and then die once a mod moves them to that subforums photo lounge unless its kept in the "whats new" or "recently posted on" section

The mods in the piranha sections use to let them stay out for 2-3 weeks before moving them to the photo lounge. Only way they got attention and an actual discussion

The forum does seem to have slowed down quite a bit since I joined six years ago.

I am quite guilty of Kolt's complaint. I've gotten very handy with a camera, but most of my updates are with the cell phone and the good pics are few and far between. I can't complain too much though because my thread has 35 pages and over 22,000 views.

A way around this seems to be maintaining 'growout threads' for key fish in a member's collection. This concept is really gaining momentum in the OC; I'll admit that I've been pushing it though. This way lots of people are subscribed and see updates, even if they don't reply.
That's a good idea and I have seen that "growout threads" do seem to net more responses and views. So if nothing else this thread has at least taught me better ways to grab a viewers attention and perhaps elicit a response from them. By the way you go above and beyond in your threads with info. so you definitely deserve the replies.

I didn't even know people where complaining about too many nice pic, nice set up, etc. comments, guess that's why so many people have been saying here they worry leaving too many comments and then them being considered spamming. I guess popss said it best

That's actually a pretty good idea, a "thumbs up" or "like" button maybe a good compromise. Perhaps even add a POTM worthy button which may get more people involved in the POTM voting and garner more interest in the pics and pic taking. How easy it would be to institute I have no idea? As for nixing the photo sections all together I'm not so sure of but that maybe more to me feeling accustomed to the current basic set up of MFK then anything else.

As for the mods letting threads stay out of the pic section in P's for 2-3 weeks, don't kid yourself we just really don't like you guys so we avoid that place like the plague only visiting it every 2-3 weeks. :D

:thumbsdow

don't see the need to overhaul the forum.

BTW, krich could teach kolt how to post extremely concise comments, but only by studying his example.
you're never gonna drag the secret out of him in words. I wouldn't doubt if his family could do comedy skits on interpreting his grunts, nods, and shrugs.
love u krich ;)

If I saw a bunch of  or :thumbsdow in an image thread as replies, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's certainly better than no replies.

Lol. if I ever start working on fish photo skillz and loading woeful tries on forum, my feelers would probably be hurt seeing all the :thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow
;)
