So whats up with the hype?

Let's see...I like dats because...I love the contrast between the black bars and the cream colored bodies. I love the body shape. I love the way they eat, the way they engulf their prey in a single pop. I love their personalities, they have the intelligence of large cichlids and become very interactive with their owners. And they carry themselves in a very regal manner, especially once they are larger.

As was stated earlier, you have to own one to really understand it.

i find dats are very interesting fishes..and is also a challenge for us who keep dats to make them stable instead of unstable...and it does not like other fishes grows up fast..it would take years of caltivation to rear them big...and if u rear them in a large group..u would love it the way they swin around and eating too...

i agree with the others that said its a matter of taste. in my opinion i hate pretty much an cichlid except flowerhorns and pike. i think all the others are horible and ugly. i also dont see why ppl need 10+ polypterus in their tanks? they are cool fish but do u need that many?

I like their big, inquisitve eyes. I like how the always look worried to me. I like how they don't eat each other, how they aren't overly aggressive, and their retractable "mohawks".

It is a matter of taste. I never owned any though (i think my friend has a tiny juvenile dat). i do notice that people like to keep them with aros.

Looks sorta cute when it is small... slow swimmer that does not dart around? Interesting ...might have to look into getting so ^^

My little Indo has tons of personality. I love watching those curious little eyes always moving around. And when I drop shrimp or fillet in the tank, he hits it so fast that I think he's gonna fly out of the water. I would definitely have a group of these guys if they were ever for sale around here.

As mentioned previously its a matter of personal taste, I cant stand cichlid hybrids for example.I think dats have such a classy look to them and the zig zag chase pattern they use when going after food is the best.
