Eheims are a good investment. They cost a little more, but I have some that have been running non-stop for 5+ years with minimum maintenance and no replacement parts ;)

agreed i have never owned one( i dont like canistersz) but i have seen some running for years and years

1. Two 1,000 mile (round trip) drives to visit family and pick up two "family" aquariums.
2. Finishing bathroom in basement. Great for maintenance, never have to go upstairs when watching fish and TV.
3. XP3 for 120 gallon tank with wet/dry, really helps with load.
4. Python
5. Hikari sinking cichlid pellets, no pellets in overflows...

1. MFK
2. Home made filters
3. home made pond / tanks
4. python
5. lots of money

#2 - how could i forget the greatest $800 ever spent on something fish related....
my la-z-boy.... best thing ever for watching fish

25 foot hose
Prime (love that smell, and its cheaper than any other brand)
Gold saum
pool filter sand
driftwood

hmmm let me see:

1.)Fluval FX5 (cut down water changing frequency three fold)

2.)Eheim Tank (looks the dogs)
3.)White river Sand (much better looking than gravel)
4.)30litre plasterers bucket (for water changes, extra big, good handles)
5.)Fire-Eel (amazing fish... great personality & size)

Just so you know, filters do not cut down on your need for water changes!

For me in no particular order;

50ft python - $40, in three years of use 2-3x a week Ive replaced one $7 part.

Prime - self explainatory

Master test kit - $20 investment has saved perhaps $1000s in fish

Stealth Heaters - Ive broken probably $100 in glass heaters...no more with stealths!

$2 A bag of polyester fiber from Walmart for about 3 months worth of EXCELLENT water polishing material!
