So what's your MOST favorite SA/CA Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love severum! I have been on the hunt for the Heros sp. 'Rio Maica' ever since Rapps had them early this year. I am hoping that he gets more in this fall or next spring that I can buy a wild group and breed them.

Lets hear some of your favorites! Gonna be stocking a new 90g soon so maybe i'll get some ideas! I don;t have much monster experience but just based on looks alone my fav of the moment is probably the well known managuensis.

My favorite CA cichlids are Midas and V. Synspillum.

Aldo, in a 90g tank, with no experience in monsters, may be I'd try a pair (may be more) of convict cichlids...

Good luck!

I know they're a dime a dozen, but I'd have to say Convict Cichlids. There's something majestic about a full grown male Con with long flowing trailers. They might not be the biggest/brightest Cichlid in the game, but they are absolutely fearless and incredibly brutal; there's something to be said for that. You see a lot of young/small ones, but every now and then you see a 6" beast who can corner a 13" Oscar with ease.

I second this, with preference to the marble variety. Aside from hybrids of course...;-)

Fish that I currently own - Rivulatus
Fish that I currently own or have owned in the past - Stalsbergi, festae
Fish that I will probably never own - Dovii, Midas

I think rivulatus is my favorite fish because they are not super aggressive and easier to keep in community tanks, and because I've never had the ultimate rivulatus in my eyes. I'm always on the hunt for something spectacular which keeps me going with the species. I have seen many online that would fit in this category in my eyes but none in person. I would love to find that one rivulatus that really does it for me, and raise many generations of them.
