Fish that are and aren't allowed have to do in most part to the weather. They look at it as if a certain type of fish will survive (usually predatory) in the wild depending on temperature and how it will affect the local wildlife if they were to ever breed and establish a introduced population. Alot of hobbyist who are pet keepers let their pets go when they become too big for them to keep; or they just don't want the burdon of maintaining it. I saw a special on tv about about a month ago on non-native species that were beginning to populate the state of Florida. Two of which were pouch rats and boa constrictors......
Exactly! People release unwanted fish and they destroy native species through predation and by damaging the natural food chain. Florida's warm weather makes it a suitable year long place for non-native fish. BTW I LOVE Florida. I love the extreme heat, the beaches, sports, and lifestyle.

Okay, what is the rational for banning all aros except Silvers? You think Blacks would be the least likely to progate in the wild given their more sensitve nature.

The only thing I hated about living in Florida was the complete lack of jobs and the extremely high cost to buy a house. Then again I just bought a house thats 1,600 sq ft + 900 sq ft finished basement for $70,000.

But when it comes to fish keeping in florida I enjoyed the access to all the salt water fish.

Well, I love everything about Florida... EXCEPT THE FISH RESTRICTIONS. I know a guy who could get you a walking catfish tho...

I live in florida. I dont mind the weather, but what i do mind... is the amount of illegal fish!!!! I know we know the reason, which i agree with those laws... but dont you just HATE it too!
If it makes you feel any better, many of those species are illegal nationwide. I love the gar, catfish, carp, and sunfish of Illinois, but I'd give my left nut to live in Florida. I mean, you have every tropical cichlid one could think of, and all sorts of cats, channa, etc as well, in your waterways. And those waterways exist on the side of every road and behind every building from what I can see. Man, I gotta get down to Florida.

I live in the uk and the weather is just so damn dreary. I'm a keen angler and i do a lot of cycling too, both outdoor activity. I'd give an arm and a leg for floridas climate from a cycling and angling perspective but then if we had your climate we'd also be strangled with fish regulations and as a result my fish keeping hobby would be affected.

So all i can say to that is....bring on the rain, hail, snow and freezing temperatures, and let me keep what fish i want!

Valid point. That comment opens up a whole can of worms on the arowana restriction topic lol.
