Herpes Simplex Virus type I, that is. If you've ever had cold sores, you have herpes. If you've ever had fever blisters, you have herpes.
Apparently upwards of 90% of people have HSV-I, the non-genital type of herpes. Half of the population has it before the age of 10, and that upwards figure of 90% is before 50.

I recently had my first outbreak and i'm in my 20's. It really freaked me out and pissed me off. I looked and still look atrocious. I'm only 5 days into it and it's been a hell of a 5 days. And to make it worse, i think it may have been triggered by a drink that i made (1 cup vodka, 1 cup lemon juice concentrate) which seemed to have the affect of thinning my tissues and acid burning them to heck. And my making and consuming that drink was triggered by an ex gf who was a friend who psychotically flipped out because i missed her phone call when i was asleep. silly, i know.

I'm in pain, and basically looking to see if all these sites i'm reading up on are lying to me. :irked:

Also, i forgot to mention, if anyone has surefire methods of treatment that has worked for them, to please share. Even methods of pain relief would be appreciated. thanks.

Carmex, or......Herpaway..FLMAO! It's all good just warn all your partners before you do anything....it's only fair. It wasn't the drink....it was the girl.....

I don't, but the title certainly got my attaention :D

A typical outbreak can last 10 days to two weeks. Antiviral meds such as Acyclovir can speed up the healing. Some people swear that taking lysine at the start of an outbreak helps them. Unfortunately, some people develop recurring herpes. The virus can take up residence in the facial nerve ganglion, and under periods of stress (lack of rest, too much sun, mental stress, whatever) a person can have an herpes outbreak. I had a classmate who would break out with painful sores all over her face and mouth the day of an exam...just the stress of studying for the test caused an outbreak. We went to an orphange in Mexico, and being in the sun caused her to break out with herpes lesions.

If you get recurring lesions, you need to see your doctor and get an antiviral med.

i dont have it.... but i seen girls that do...and they try to cover it up with make-up.... and one girl had it on her top lip and they where black... that was pretty gross. and my step bro has it all the time.

go to a doctor. see what they have to say... it could be worse than you think. or not as bad as you think.... id get checked out either way.

i even got checked for something thats supposedly "normal". but thats another story and laugh. i tell people to this day and they make fun of me for worrying about it... so i just dont bring it up, haha.

Was it hemorrhoids?

I don't know whether or not it really works, but I have been told by patients that they use Vitamin E to soothe the pain of cold sores. Soak a cotton ball or gauze pad in Vitamin E oil and then hold it against the cold sore for 15 minutes and repeat this every eight hours. Just make sure that you get the oil and not a lotion that contains Vitamin E, otherwise it is just going to burn a lot.

I hope you feel better soon.
