So why even bother with liquid water conditioners?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
true but i always buy fish from other people who has /had the fish in there tank before i buy/bought it for awhile already besides a couple other times here and there from a lfs lol

guess ill be making a qt section in my new sump im building prob gonna get flamed for my lazyness & qting in the sump by someone soon or later...lol great gotta buy more glass panels -__- haha
what your saying is confusing, I have always been under the impression the point of quarantine is to keep the fish separate to make sure it doesnt have an illness or parasite. Why bother wasting time putting it in the sump when you can just put the damn fish in the main tank if your not going to bother with a different system?

Yeah, was wondering the same thing!? And also the fish would probably be more 'stressed' in the sump, than in the main aquarium, I would imagine? :WHOA:

i qt at night when i sleep & when i sleep i turn the sump off since its right next to my bed/head when i sleep & the motor noise is annoying and a pita. if the fish looks good after a few days/nights ill put it in the tank if it looks like something is wrong ill setup a rubbermaid tank so it can heal & etc. and clean the sump and replace the media with others i have that i switch out every week.

but assuming you sleep a normal 8 hour day, your other fish are exposed to 16 hours of possible illness already. Do you really think that 8 hours is making a difference besides possibly losing the oxygen in the water for your fish? What your doing makes not honest logical sense, im not trying to flame you, but figure out your reasoning behind it.

Also i do not quarantine my fish before hand. Then again, aside from my 1 flowerhorn, I only get fish from two different places and both have very good owners

Not to pipe in - but can you/we turn off our sumps for 8 hours when it is full of biological media? I didn't think you were suppose to --

On topic - I use aqua safe, but I am now investigating this seachem safe stuff mentioned.

Here is an example of 1 kg of safe for $29 (this is where I order it from):

http://www.petblvd.com/cgi-bin/pb/JRP03870.html

and treats 150,000 for chlorine/chroramines and 30,000 gallons if treating ammonia. A 250 mL bottle of prime costs me $8 from petsmart and treats 2500 gallons for chlorine/chroramines and less for ammonia. The math is not hard on this one.
