My guys are great. It's like having a dog that's on my own schedule.. I do spend a good amount of money on the hobby; but watching, and bragging, and just having it, is worth it to me. Just one of those things you fall into, and are glad you did..
SIZE, colour, intelligence, aggression, big teeth.... the list goes on.
my first fish were oscars and then i went to the 'colorful' tank with malawi africans. although i could still sit in front of the tank for hours you just don't get the same interaction you do with the CA/SA's. plus they are just as colourful... just in their own way
i never liked saltwater but thts probably because of my location
also sa/ca cichlids have got plenty of personality and like mentioned before act like dogs my tiger oscar and lutino oz and tubelight will always pose when i pull my camera phone out infront of the tank! also everytime i walk close to the tank they rush to the glass abd beg for food =D
ca/sa also are big fish for most people and a 12" oscar is really an impressive thing to see
I like the "personalities" of the fish. None of my saltwater fish had any type of a personality. I kept a saltwater reef tank for quite a while but after a while it was just more trouble than it was worth. Even though I had pretty much everything automated it would still screw up every time I went out of town.
With freshwater tanks they are just way too easy. Get decent filtration, get some heaters and you are done. Just perform simple routine maintenance.
Here is a picture of my 90 gallon reef tank. It was certainly beautiful (to me) but it just wasn't worth the head aches. I travel way too much to be able to keep a reef tank. Oh, I had approximately $9,000 in this tank.
like everyone else said personality! they rub up against my hand when i clean the tank, and it's a lot cooler to say u have 8 inch oscars than mini goldfish or something...
