I am not %100 but it looks like it cracked along the 3 bulk heads that are on the bottom...

You can replace the broken panel for way less than the cost of a new tank. The tank most likely had been drilled dry at some point. If the glass is not constantly cooled, it will quickly heat up to what is known as the stress temperature (510 C degrees). At that point, stresses are permanantly introduced into the glass causing it to greatly weaken. (The only way to remove the stresses is to anneal the panel in a furnace.) When the internal stresses plus the external stresses (weight of the water, impulses of the fish, plumbing hanging from the bulkhead, etc.) equal the strength or elastic limit of the glass, it will break.

At least you got a new shop vac out of the deal.

yeah, it sucks when that happens. I had a 500 litre (125G) tank burst a silicon seam a month ago after 8 years in service... took me 2 days to clean up. I repaired it myself cos it was easier than carrying it out to have it repaired professionally.

I don't trust myself to fix a tank. I would rather buy a new one and have that peace of mind that it will most likely be in one piece.

Sorry to hear, but acrylic will definitely be a wise move. No worrying about cracks or seams breaking.

Are you planning on getting it custom?

My condolences...

But if you got it fixed, it would make a great sump for a bigger tank...hint...hint. ;)

Or a garage tank.

Or viewing windows for your new pond.

Geesh...I can spend peoples money faster than Congress, well...almost. :D
