Soaking food in Metronidazole

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also how long after the Epsom salts are dissolved into the water does the active ingredient stay active?
Same question for Metro and Prazi

Will a fish w/ hexamita still grow or does the parasite steal all nutrients from the fish??

I don't think that tilapia would do a very good job at absorbing the meds, I would also suspect that most would wash off upon hitting the water.

Keep in mind that unless one is looking at smears under a microscope, and knows exactly what to look for, it is near impossible for most hobbyists to be 100% certain as to what they are dealing with. What one thinks is Spironucleus could actually be a case of Crytobia iubilans, or even a severe bacterial infection. Also, Spironucleus is capable of becoming systemic, so if those parasites travel into the blood stream and settle in organs, chance of recovery becomes much more slim with each passing day.

Not sure about Metro, but magnesium sulfate will stay active once mixed with water indefinitely I would think. Weeks/months for sure.

Actually some of the worst alleged hex cases i've had involved the Hemichromis group. Both fish in separate cases would feed and were exhibiting classic signs of hex but I never bothered to micro exam fish. For the worst cases, I like the combo of the above two mentioned meds mixed in food.

Combo of Metro and Prazi or Metro and Epsom salts?

Could I combine all 3??? Or would the Epsom salts counteract the Metro/Prazi?? RD. RD. Wailua Boy Wailua Boy

Dr. Edward J Noga suggests:

1. Bath

a. Add 19mg/gallon and treat for 3 hours. Repeat every other day for 3 treatments.

2. Prolonged Immersion

a. Add 25mg/gallon and treat once daily for a total of 3 times.
b. Add 95mg/gallon and treat every other day for three days.

3. via feed

25 mg/Kg of body weight/day for 5 to 10 days, or 100 mg/kg of body weight for 3 days. Retreat once if required.

ya it is, but my point was if you didn't see a change with Epsom salts I would try a dose of metro...just to be safe.
Yep, even half strength metro works pretty good

Ok, so I just got the Seachem Metroplex ,
1.) Do I need to remove the carbon elements from my filters if i'm feeding it to them. I assume no since it's going directly into their stomachs?
2.) How much should I use?

Unless i'm mistaken, I assume this is the Epsom Salts you are talking about? Or is this for feeding them Metro-soaked food?

What I did is I put the dose of powder metro in a disposable cup with a little bit of water and some bloodworms since that's all that my sick fish ate.(sajica) and I let it soak in it then throw it in the tank. I did it till I finish the metro I also did it directly to the tank so that way if Their was any parasite swimming around it would kill it. After a week of treating my sajica finally pooped normal and is now eating pellets and flakes
Did you use the little scoop that the Metroplex comes with that is attached to the inside of the cap? and if so, how many?

Yah I used the little scoop, I just read the instructions on the bottle. I don't remember I think it was one full scoop into a cup of water and I let the bloodworms soak in it
