I've been all around, and I usually grab their business card and write something on the back if there is anything worth mentioning. I started this tradition after visiting a store with a great selection but I forgot to grab a card, and I've never been able to find it again. let me pull out my stack.
ATA had a prochilodus for $15, I thought that was pretty good. Not sure if it was the right kind.
Grand Tropical Fish & Pets - Good prices ($1 large red-eye tetras)
930 S Grand Ave
Glendora
Gill's - big store, small selection, but it seemed new and growing
27620 Commerce Ctr Dr #113
Temecula
The Fish Room - I might have this one confused with the other temecula one
27460 Aqua Vista #B
Temecula
Pet Ave - good selection. I get my bloodworms there.
Pomona
Pacific Reef in Torrance- mostly saltwater?
Jan's in Upland- decent selection, a little more expensive though
I often leave feeling like they've cheated me, but only a little
Window to the Sea - mostly salt
14061 Newport Ave, Ste A
Tustin
The Aquarium - I liked it there
Culver City
Rare Fish- haven't been there since it changed hands
I remember thinking that most of the fish were already reserved, but even then the available fish were unique and awesome
Foothill Aquatic and Pets- went recently- a big senegal but nothing worth mentioning
La Verne
Imperial Tropical Fish -prices decent
Brea
Tiki's Fish and Pets I think this place was a waste of time, but i could be mistaken
Bellflower
Strictly Fish - definitely liked the place, wish it was closer to me. In my top 5
Lakewood
Fontana Tropical Fish (mentioned earlier by another post) Their prices on Roselines were great when I was there, black ghost $9.98
9830 A/B Sierra Ave
Fontana
I should start dating these
Allan's Aquarium
Stodgy full-service pet store. pretty standard selection, but quite a few tanks in their tank room. the help was not knowledgeable.
Venice
Exotic Tropical Fish of the World
Good selections, ok (little high) prices. People are sweet.
Moreno Valley
Coral Sea (surprised this one hasn't been listed)
They were my favorite when I lived in Riverside. little pricey.
Riverside
7 Seas - they had a delhezi when I was there, but not a very good sample. I liked their large predator tank and arowanas
Long Beach
Neptune's Reef - favorite in Torrance
I like what they have, and the people are knowledgeable. a little pricy, but very good quality
Torrance
Carson Tropical Fish
not much of a selection, prices ok, some rare supplies
Carson
And the place I frequent the most is Total Tropical. I've talked to other fishkeepers who have been put off by the owner's attitude, and I've seen him be mean, but once you gain his respect as a fishkeeper he's pretty knowledgable.
Then the places I can remember but don't have cards to:
Fish house and Pets
Holt Ave Pomona or Montclair
I'm usually pleased with their rare fish collection and they have corycats that are rarely seen in fish stores (not monsters, but I like em)
Aloha, boring and expensive, no real selection
Torrance
The little place in Hermosa near 5th street on PCH- mentioned earlier but I don't remember the name, not a great selection, but I commend their efforts.
Thanks for the other listings; some I've been to, others not. I think this weekend I will be on a road-trip through LA.
