Thats the idea

Which is why I started the thread. Do you have any suggestions to add to what blazin dragon posted?

At the size you have him, I would go with barbs, personally I would wait till the 6 inch mark. SD maybe too wild. You might be able to try really small maybe 1-1.5 inch convicts, just make sure you don't get a male or female. Go with all males or all females. Once they get bigger they can be aggressive and hold their own.

Thank you for the advice, I will wait until he gets bigger then. :)

i moved mine when he was very very young so he would have tankmates immediately as a youngin. at only 4 or 5" i threw him in my 150gal with bichirs/dats/gars/catfish and he's been really good with tankmates ever since. occassionally a snip during feeding time but i believe its more for showing domanance on who's the boss.

lei's are awesome fish but don't be surprised of a lil agression or skittish jumps every now n then.

dats are definitely very good tank mates. they aren't aggressive toward other species, and they share the same diet w/aros, so i guess ur aro can get used to sharing his food too, hehe. and also, bichirs are good tankmates w/aros. bottom crawlers are good w/aros in general. and if u want a flagtail is a good candidate as well

Well I actually had to move it just a little while after this thread was started. It was running into the walls of its grow out when it got spooked so for his health I moved him to my 120.

He is doing very well and is ~5 1/4" He is less skittish now and eats indiscriminately now. No agression or territory issues to date.

Current tankmates are:

3x Endlicheri
6x Clown Loaches
2x Ancistrus sp.
1x Horabagrus brachysoma
1x Oxyeleotris marmorata
1x Synodontis sp.
3x Corydoras

and maybe a few others that slip my mind at the moment

That sounds good. I'm still keeping my two Lei in a 20gal tall divided and doing 2-3x water changes a week.

How is the "Big tank" comming along?

youre set-up is pretty ideal for them. I had mine in an area that got a lot of traffic, it was right inside my bedroom door. The 120 is by the front door and does see more traffic but theres a lot more room to swim if he gets spooked. the lei was downstairs when you were over, dont know if you got a chance to check him out.

its slow so far, my "fish budget" is not as big as my plans. I am currently scraping this gunky sticky rubbery stuff off the bottom inside of the tank, huge pain in the ***. looking at a move in date in early may

They still get spooked even under one of my larger tanks. I found them a couple times on the same side of the divider. I just moved them back and they were ok. It happend when the lights were off so I don't think they were able to see each other and pick a fight. Yes I got a chance to check him out, I think he might be a little bigger than my two, he was looking good.

Once you get that bad boy up post pics for everyone to see. The guy to bought the tank from, I actually e-mailed when he first posted his tank for sale, found an old e-mail I sent to him.

Your old 240 tank is up and running, just have one 4 inch Green tex in there until I figure out what to move into it.

he has been gowing like crazy, I have been feeding him 2x a day in an effort to keep him outgrowing the potential threats in the tank. it seems he is always hungry and will eat anything that hits the water

I will for sure post pics when there is something to show
