soft shell turtle HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont have experience with soft shelled but i do have some painters. 2 of mine swim fine and the other swims as if it is scared. If the tank is big enough i suggest making it so that there is land on one side with a gradual move into deeper water. For food. Pellets found at the pet store will provide the turtle with nutrients to grow, but if the turtle was once wild, it may be hard to feed them pellets so mix them in while feeding it live

How was the turtle kept before it was given to you?

How is the turtle now?

She told me it was in a dry 20 long with about 200 others. When she brought it they put it in a fish bag dry with a paper towel.

Now it's burried in the dry sand when I uncover him he walks around a little then goes back down.

on troydurrs post, you can try that, having first trying swallow water by sloping the sand onto one side and filling the tank so there is 1 inch of water. I think the turtle is just scared and stressed out so leave him in dark quiet room with monitoring

You'll need to get it to adapt to its natural, would be aquatic set up of cycled water. Very sensitive to water parameters. If I'm not wrong, soft shell turtles have the natural habit of burrowing, but this is usually done on a soft sandy substrate underwater. Therefore, make sure your substrate is smooth, put a amount of de-chlorinated, cycled water so that the turtle can stick its nose out to breathe at will.

From what you said it does seem like the lack of water in the turtles life has left him scared. Im sticking with what i said about tank setup, work land into water so he can gradually go in. My neighbor had one of those, it only ate meat, ask someone at a local petstore, they are usually fulll of info on feeding
