I just noticed that on my baby turtle the back end of his shell on the edge is soft and wiggles...its not hard like the rest of the shell....is everything ok? is it supposed to be this way? help please.
If the soft area is evenly distributed along the very back edge of the shell and still kind of firm to the touch this is normal for a baby turtle. They're shells grow harder and stronger as they age. If it's patchy soft areas or if the edge of the shell droops I would be worried. Make sure he has a place to pull himself fully out of the water and bask under a heat source. Also, try to feed high calcium foods and supplement his diet w/ calcium/vit D3. Try to post pics of the turtle and I'll be able to tell if he has softshell.
Try to get him outside into some natural sunlight for a couple of hours if you can. When I got my baby turtles (map & yellow belly slider) I put them outside to get some sun and the shells hardened right up pretty quickly.
