I have a chance to get one, my new 180 comes with one. I will have a spare 100g, Does anyone keep one on here. I am not a novice at reptiles but need some info. I have seen several co existing in tanks without a basking bulb. is this a good way for them. I see a few care sheets mentioning basking bulbs. also do they need a place to get out of water. If they can be kept almost like fish, I believe I am gonna try to keep it. Also is sponge filters a usable option

Edit: after research I know this the non Florida turtle. Owner said it is about 9 in wide. Anyone keep any or have pics of there setups. Gladly appreciate it

These turtles should be kept alone, They are fish hunters and are very good ones. They also need powerful filtration, I would not recommend a sponge filter, more a canister.

Also, these turtles require a basking area. This means they come out of water to dry off and absorb UV and heat rays from either a fluorescent and halogen bulb or a mercury vapor bulb.

I own a chinese soft shell, she basks for several hours every day. Currently 6 inches long living in a 90g. They enjoy digging in sand to hide and eat a lot of food.

Ok he be in 100 alone, I got s zoomed turtle dock, can I get away with a bare bottom for awhile. My priority is setting up 180 and well the turtle comes with it, so I am pulling accommodations out of my ass ATM trying to make it be ok. 100 has no stand so it will be emperor 400s and sponges and a power head till I can build s stand :(

hey in talks of getting a 125 with stand, so I can get the canister running, he is a gulf coast male. I saw they only get up to around 9 in. anyway is the zoo med turtle dock good for a basking spot

I do not like the basking docks by zoo med but that is just me. I built my dock out of PVC pipes. You need to use play sand or beach sand, it is fine and easy on your animals skin. Coarse sand can damage your animal.

Honestly, you don't need any filtration at all. But expect too do a 50% water change everyday.

alright, well atm, he is in bucket, he is smaller than the owner said, tomorrow I think the trade for my 100 for a 125 and stand may be down, my 180 I got today came with a cascade, 500(??) so I will use that as filtration
