Softshell turtle

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Softshells are great, but shouldn't be mixed with anything. They're excellent hunters of fish, and I've had them catch and eat fish bigger than them. They're also highly territorial towards any species of turtle including their own, and should be kept solitary.

On the flip side, they're extremely fragile, lacking the defensive hard shell. A bite from another turtle could leave one critically injured. Even the substrate and decor have to be smooth to prevent the turtle injuring itself.

A 60G would be cramped for an adult Softshell, so unless you can afford to upgrade the enclosure later (as I've already mentioned, adding it to your native setup isn't a good idea), I would look at other options.

Best,
Paul

Well that's in the wild man just like am aripima they aren't gunna get 15 foot in a tank no matter how big yet people keep them a lot I think a hundred would be better then the 20 they are in now at the store and they are about 8 inches across but I'm getting a baby anyways but still not 100% sure if I'm even getting one its either that or some kind of lizard but I'm leaning more towards a softshell

I have my softshell turtle housed with my red eared slider and they have been living happily together for about four years.

Oh and I forgot to add. I've had a betta with them for a year and a half. So in my opinion you can definitely 100% sure keep them together

Cool thanks for the info but now I'm thinking I'm gunna do a Chinese water dragon
