My buttikoferi was the same way when i first got him, he was 1.5 inch and very shy and color would come and go.
Starting to come out more. He's definitely very food motivated.
I tried to put a little more food in there for the pictus catfish I threw in there to keep him company but he quickly claimed and tried to eat all of it! I'm taking the pictus out on my next water changes as he clearly does not need company. You can see at the end of the video how he tried to come at me too while filming haha
Is there any way to sex him this early on? I'm curious to know if I have a male or a female.

Very cool, he’s coming around quicker than my butti did, he took about a month.
Get him some dithers until he grows out a lil. He should be a lot more outgoing with some other fish in the tank

Things are going great so far. Definitely putting on some size and getting better color.
Still trying to figure out if I got a male or a female.
Also added some real plants. Well see how they fare long term lol
