I believe the last pic is that of a female Festae too, based on the dark blotch on the dorsal fin and the dark colored pectoral fins.

Been a while posting my Festae.She has come a long way.Coloured up very nicely.

Nice job, it is almost always the other way around. The misidentification of Festae is such that most employees at your LFS have only even seen Mayan cichlids in person.

Those certainly look like bona fide M. festae to me, and very pretty ones at that.

My Festae has had a growth spurt last couple of weeks.The female was the dominant one till last week.Now the male has taken over.Hopefully they will make a pair.

Lately I’ve been noticing Mayans costing the same or more than festae. It used to be the other way around. Kind of wondering why. Less common in the hobby? One reason they are because people wanted festae, because they are very colorful. I like Mayans, don’t get me wrong, but given the choice between the two, I’ll take festae.
