Solenoid Valves

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am planning on hooking up a second stingray pond to the new one I am just about done building. This will be a smaller one that I move the males to when the females need a break. What I am planning on doing is running 1 pump from my main pond constantly to fill the second pond, and then in the second pond I will have a higher speed pump that will return water to the main pond. The higher speed pump will be started and stopped by water level sensors. I am planning to have a few redundant water level sensors in place incase one fails me.

The reason I was looking at solenoids is incase of pump failure or power failure to prevent a syphon, I did not know they used the water pressure to close. I will check out valves4projects.com Alternatively I might just have to do my plumbing in a way to avoid the syphon. Thanks for the input.

Do it with one pump, and use gravity to return the water. Obviously the pump needs to be in the lower pond (if they aren't level). Plumb the inlet of the return at the water's surface in the higher pond. Then when the pump is running, as it pumps water into the higher pond, water will overflow into the pipe and down to the lower pond.
