Solitary fish recommendations?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
tank is 1'5 deep and 4'2 long 1'4 wide. and ive always been into dovii's. never knew theyre was a miniature species. Can anyone give me more info on them?

Grammodes: Keeping them is like the" typical" ca cichlid. Extremely aggressive with a dovii type look, but fall way short in the interactive behavior. Have some 2" that kill when the lights are off, but the tank looks empty the rest of the time. I've seen them active in 2 types of an environment: Big community with large aggressive cichlids or at almost full grown in a not big enough tank. Painfully slow growth compared to a dovii, Oscar, etc.

There is no substitute for a dovii to be honest. They look similar to a dovii, but that's it.

sounds perfect. would you know of any LFS in southern cali that would sell them or is it a special order kind of thing?

Special Order I would assume, but I'm down toward Florida. My personally opinion is I would order some 5" or as big as he has from cichlid connection. They will be able to sex them and you can order a few males etc. Don't get sticker shock, because your basically cutting out 2 yrs of painfully slow growth rate. They're pretty cool and different.

also consider some smaller piranha species, couldnt an elong/pike piranha go in there? i watched a video the otherday on here i think of a right little glass banger!-) giant bumblebee catfish are interesting if you like catfish, maybe a gulper catfish?

Another vote for Cuban Cichlid Male (Nandopsis tetracanthus) maxed size around 10 inches and it does look better than Polleni IMO.

Can an adult female red devil really live in a 60 gallon permanently?

***60 gallon with 1 Flowerhorn, 10 Mollies and 1 Musk Turtle, 4 Angelfish temporarily with my mom***
