Solo monster for 370gallon

ur in aus why get something u can get there? there lot of predatory fish there u can keep in a tank like that.
for example a murray cod or mangrove jack red snapper. both of these fish are beautiful predatory fish
that you can feed live too. u can probably do a small community of couple other fish with the murray cod too.
or you can get a big rhom or shoal of P's. Most common stock for a tank that size would be a arowana and some
dither fish like silver dollars and etc. lots of different ways to go and fish to choose from!

But isn't 370 gallons too small for a mangrove Jack long term? They get as big as barramundi...
 
Some good suggestions so far. As an aside I would not get a solo clown loach or tinfoil (or several of the other large barbs) as many of them tend to shoal.

I do like the idea of grabbing a local species however and it seems you are in a perfect situation to make that work if it's the proper size.

in the wild yes but even in the wild it takes a long time to reach the estimated max size.
a buddy has one that has been housed in a 770 for its entire life and stopped growing at
around roughly 40"

Okay, how long would I be looking at for it staying in a 370gallon? How would I know when it's time I need to get a bigger tank

not sure but if its the only fish growing out in a 370 you will have some time before you gotta upgrade.
growing one out myself its about 2" right now lol

Do you know at least what length it would have to be for me to know it is too big for the tank?
 
at 78x38 you might not have to. even if they get around 4' in the wild they may not grow that big in a home aquarium
so if you do go the mangrove jack route take your time and enjoy growing it out its not like the fish its gonna grow 3'
over night lol
