Easiest way to deal with snails is don't overfeed, and reach into the tank and pull them out. To make it easier bait the snails with a lettuce leaf or a slice of zucchini.
I don't think the snails are causing the main problem of your fish acting sick. I agree with the people saying tear down and clean. I don't know if it is true but have heard stories of copper products soaking into the silicone and then leaching back and causing problems after many water changes. Also if the copper managed to precipitate out of solution it could be in the gravel and leaching back into the water.
EDIT: Some fresh activated carbon in the filter might help eliminate whatever is causing the fish to be sick.
Copper will make your fish sick, especially the clown loach. It sounds like you are having cycling issues. Have you tested your water with a liquid dropper test kit?
Copper also kills plants. I would take the clown loach back, and not let the fish store employees advise anything. They just want your $$.
I have always been aware that the guys at the shop are a lill too eager to sell me a solution as opposed to sound advise. I wish i had a closer shop to go to but i really dont.
ill bring a water sample in to them and have it checked tomorrow. or spend the 40-50 bucks on the test kit. is there a test kit for copper?
There is a test kit for copper. You can buy the freshwater master test kit online for as low as $25.00, and the copper test kit cost me 10.99 at petsmart. (The copper test does not come included in the master kit.)
ah great! ill pick up a copper test.. that is one of my big questions in this whole fiasco!
Kjfan help would be great! i have to use a step ladder to get my arms in the tank! I have a good question for you though.. what is your opinion of wet world in egan??? and what shops are better that arnt so far from st paul?
sounds good.. I would like to see some of the other shops in the TC area. maybe i can track down some sun fish. id rather buy them than ah... find them. although the shop told be that most of there natives are brought in by anglers or people who caught them, kept them and decided to get rid of them so ill have to weigh my options.
